Be Open Space was a temporary flash market for emerging designers along the Grand Union Canal in Ladbroke Grove.
Constructed from spruce ply and reinforced by structural timber ribs, the form of each individual stall relates to the building frontage and pitched roofs of the adjacent retail parade. A web of interlinking cables stretch between stalls and down towards the water, representing the ‘network of ideas’ presented by the exhibition as well as anchoring the market to the site and its surroundings. In keeping with the notion of immediacy presented by Be Open Space, the entire installation was conceived, designed, and built within seven days.
Exhibitors included: Tom Dixon, Studio Toogood, Traces, Technology will save us, Awosile and Tikau as part of the 2012 London Design Festival.
